As the year draws to a close, we take a look back at some of the products that proved the most popular with our members. Making up the list are a memory foam mattress, big-screen TV and a bargain cordless vac.
We’ve analysed our website to discover which products were the most viewed by you in 2019.
It’s been a busy year for us – in 2019 alone, we’ve put nearly 3,500 products through our extensive, expert lab tests.
We go to these lengths because we want to make sure that when you need to buy something new, be it a car, cordless vac or coffee maker, you know which is the best for your budget. And you don’t waste your money on something that’s not right for your needs.

Which products were the most popular this year?
1. The Emma Original mattress (£650)
The Emma Original was our most-read review of the year. This bed-in-a-box mattress is available online and arrives at your door vacuum-packed. Open the box, roll it out and the mattress will expand within a couple of hours.
You have a 100 nights to sleep on it before deciding whether you want to return your Emma mattress for a full refund.
This mattress is comprised of a 19cm foam core, with 2cm of memory foam and 4cm of normal foam. You don’t need to flip it as only one side is designed to sleep on.
Ben Slater, Which? homes expert, says: ‘Thanks to extensive marketing and competitive pricing, Emma has rapidly become one of the best-known mattress brands in the UK.
‘Buying a new mattress is a big decision that will affect your wellbeing for years to come, and knowing where to start can be tricky. So it’s no surprise that so many people opted to make reading our review their first port of call.’

2. Lidl Silvercrest Cordless Handheld and Upright vacuum (£50)
This Lidl-exclusive vacuum cleaner made a real splash in the budget supermarket’s bargain aisles. It’s one of the cheapest cordless vacs you can buy, and Lidl also adds in extra accessories for cleaning sofas, stairs and cars.
Plus you get a Hepa 13 filter and, like most Lidl special offer appliances, a generous three-year warranty.
Matt Knight, Which? homes expert, says: ‘Is a cordless vacuum cleaner for £50 too good to be true? It’s got attractive specs for such a cheap machine, with a removable handheld and a decent 0.7-litre capacity.
Which? members logged in in their droves to find out whether this Lidl Silvercrest cordless vacuum cleaner could outperform cordless vacuums that cost 10 times the price.’

3. Acer Swift 1 SF114 laptop (£400)
This light 14-inch laptop’s cheap and cheerful price meant it commandeered a lot of interest on our site. Weighing in at only 1.3kg, it’s light enough to comfortably carry around in a bag or backpack.
This Acer laptop may not come with an ethernet port for wired internet, but you get three USB ports, one USB-C, HDMI, an Micro-SD card reader and even a fingerprint reader to making logging on quick and easy.
Michael Passingham, Which? tech expert, says: ‘Forget your MacBooks and Microsoft Surface laptops, this budget model from Acer topped the laptop rankings every single month in 2019. It’s no surprise, though, as it packs a modest but attractive spec sheet, a Full HD screen, a very light and rather attractive design.
As of right now, though, only a slightly more expensive model (£449) with more storage and Ram is available. Which is a pity, as the £349 price of the basic model was exceptionally attractive.’

4. LG 43UK6300PLB (£300)
This 43-inch LG was our most popular TV of the year. It’s an entry-level, 4K model that comes pre-loaded with various streaming apps. You’ll have access to 4K content on Amazon Video, BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
The LG 43UK6300PLB has both a Freeview tuner and a satellite TV tuner, serving up hundreds of free channels. If you connect a hard drive to this LG, you’ll be able to record your favourite shows to watch at a later date. But note that as this TV has a single tuner PVR, you can only record one show at a time.
Martin Pratt, Which? tech expert, says: ‘43-inch TVs are still in high demand, even if manufacturers don’t always recognise it, and it’s no surprise to see the LG 43UK6300PLB is one of our top reviews of the year.

5. Dyson V11 Absolute cordless vacuum cleaner (£490)
If you’re a fan of cordless vacs, then this cordless Dyson would have make its mark on you in 2019. It comes with a smart digital display to let you know how much cleaning time you have left, and even helpfully lets you know if it has a blockage or if its filters need cleaning.
The Absolute also came with an array of fancy tools – which it should, for the price.
Matt Knight, Which? homes expert, says: ‘The V11 was Dyson’s big launch in 2019, arriving with much fanfare in March 2019. It cost more than £600 at launch and came with a digital interface, longer battery life, and an array of nifty tools and attachments.
We revealed our full review not long after launch and would-be shoppers clicked to find out whether a £600 vac could ever be worth it.’
